Légère skirmish elements

In Republic to empire a light battalion of 32 men can be in either in limited (4 skirmish bases)/half (8 skirmish bases)/full deployment (12 skirmish bases). For varity I'm going to make my skirmish bases as a mix of flank and line companies.

I have another six bases as wip and we will also use theese bases for Sharpes practice.

Finished converted prussian Schützen

Greetings!

To get things going before the autumn season starts, with increased activity, I wish to present my finished prussian Schützen! This battalion represents one of two in the prussian army and I will use it as an avant garde for my infantry battalions. The models are all Perry miniatures, plastic volunteer jägers slightly converted and painted with black cuffs, turnbacks and collars with red piping. I have also added a metal bugler from the prussian skirmishing fusilier command on one of the bases. Of course a special battalion like this needs someone to blow the jägerhorn! Hopefully these men will be able to make up for some of my lack of light troops.

Armed with rifles this unit will be sharpshooting, picking of french ordinances, officers and cheese-vendors.

Converted officer and NCO.

The mixed headgear is supposed to give a more experienced look. These soldiers have found their style through campaigning.

Schützen and trumpeter.

All geared up and on the move!

More to come at a later date! In the mean time, have a nice time and game on!

Regards,

Anders the younger.

A guest appearance

Hey everyone!

There has been a long time since we updated the blog and we have both had many things to do during summer. Trips around Europe, work and other leisures have come in the way for further wargame progress. This summer I am also working at the Royal palace of Stockholm, serving His majesty the king, and thouroughly enjoying myself with my cultural-historical work.

Tonight I visited some friends here in Stockholm to play a game of ancient 15mm. Sassanid persians versus Armenians. A battle which started of good (for me and my comrades persians) but ended in an embarrassing defeat for the persian aswaran noble cavalry. Lesson learned: don't underestimate mountain dwelling christians! Anyway, after the game the other guys wanted to know more about our blog here and I showed them what we had done. They got really interested and my own wargaming fire got some more fuel. I really look forward to continuing the work with my prussians when I return up north in Umeå. A weekly painting night or two will do wonders to my growing division if I can find the time between university studies, historical reenacting, outdoor living and travelling. I hope to finish up with a few more units quite quickly so that another nice game of Republic to Empire can be played with Anders the elder.

I may have the time and energy to post something more while I work here in the capital. If not, I will be back in Umeå in mid-august.

Kindest regards,

Anders the younger

Work in progress - Artillerie à Pied

Greetings, I just wanted to show you some work in progress of my Line artillery battery. The plan is to have three 6pdrs and one howitzer on four bases. In republic to empire you have a zone behind the artillery where no units can deploy or move around so I have started to draw up my ideas for the four bases occuping that zone.

Regards,

Anders the elder.

General de Brigade and Amis - Légère brigade command

Finished painting the Brigade command of the Légère four battalion brigade. I really enjoyed painting this one the Paul hicks ADC was a nice change of pace.

The infantry of the brigade is coming along nicely as I have three out of four battalion commands done and currently working on the skirmish bases.

Silesian Schützen Work in progress

Greetings!

Recently I have been working on my prussian schützen batalion. After some thinking about what I should use to balance Anders the elders Légère I decided to go for a full skirmish unit of Schützen. I may also field a similar unit of freiwillige Jägers in the future. These are mostly Perry plastics, but the bugler is metal. I figured I should have him since it makes more sense for an independent unit to actually have officers, NCO's and a bugler. There are also some convertions, mainly of the headgear so that they look a bit more unregulated. The officer has got the appropriate golden cord hanging between button and shoulder board.

The things I enjoyed most with this unit were to paint green (instead of dark blue...), to do the red piping (which is not always seen) and the black leather. A welcome break from the blue and grey.

There is more to come, so stay tuned! Next up from me should be the finished Schützen batalion, and perhaps more on my converted Landwehr...
